Globalisation and decentralisation are forcing regions to improve their competitiveness all the time. At this level the greatest pressure is on maintaining economic growth and social development. Since the mid 1990s, BAKBASEL has therefore performed regional benchmarking in order to analyse regions and clusters.
The true meaning of the word "benchmark" is a "standard against which others can be measured" or a "point of reference from which measurements can be undertaken." The objective of benchmarking is to identify the best company, compare one’s own company with the best, and demonstrate which factors make the best so successful. The knowledge gained from making these comparisons is then applied in practice via political and economic decisions.
"International Benchmarking Programme" The "International Benchmarking Programme" offers its members, who come from governments, administrative departments, trade associations, foundations and companies, a range of different measures in the area of regional and industry-specific benchmarking. Among these services is access to data from the "International Benchmarking Database", a collection of data which is uniquely up-to-date and unsurpassed in scope.
