Responses to the international location competition |
About ten years ago, Europe's regions felt the competition for new businesses intensifying markedly as a result of globalisation. Individual regions needed to keep an eye on what their competitors were doing, so it was not surprising when a number of Swiss cantons and the Swiss Confederation asked BAKBASEL, which had considerable experience both in dealing with the shortcomings of official statistics and in producing international industry analyses and forecasts, to establish a regional benchmarking system. |

Instruments for economic political decision makers |
With the 'International Benchmarking Programme', BAKBASEL provides a tool for early detection and perception of economic strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The international comparison of competing regions enables regions to take the necessary steps to improve and ensure the quality of their locations. It also provides policy makers with arguments for supporting the appropriate policies.

Further information - Services of the IBP |
The lifeblood of IBP's information offering is the International Benchmarking Database on which all analyses and reports are based. Governments, administrations, trade associations, foundations or companies carry out such analysis in order to be a member of the IBP. Members can also receive maintenance, updates and expansion of the exclusive database. The analyses are based on extensive and particularly consistent data gathered specifically for this purpose.
In addition to data access, IBP offers its members other useful services: The International Benchmarking Report with its yearly up-to-date published figures and the International Benchmarking Forum where new research and specific regional topics are presented and discussed. |

International Benchmarking Database |
The International Benchmarking Database (IBD) is the basis for the benchmarking analyses. It comprises indicators of economic performance as well as quantitative indicators on the quality of important location factors: information on value, productivity, labour costs, innovation, taxation, accessibility, regulation of product and labour markets, quality of living and sustainability. These data are available in time series, presentations and reports.

International Benchmarking Forum |
Once a year BAKBASEL organises the International Benchmarking Forum for IBP participants interested in regional development and international benchmarking. Recent results from the IBD, new research and specific regional topics are presented and discussed in detail by BAKBASEL and international experts. The forum is also an international platform for networking and discussions on regional political and economic issues.
