Globalisation and decentralisation are forcing regions to improve their competitiveness all the time. At this level the greatest pressure is on maintaining economic growth and social development. Since the mid 1990s, BAK Basel has therefore performed regional benchmarking in order to analyse regions and clusters. |

BAK Basel conducted a business survey to ascertain which key factors are taken into account when choosing a location for business. On the basis of the survey results, BAK Basel develops various sets of indicators to measure a location’s attractiveness. On the basis of its benchmarking analysis of an economic region, BAK Basel draws up recommendations for economic policy aimed at improving performance and framework conditions. These recommended courses of action form the basis for devising economic development strategies. As an independent economic research and consulting institution, BAK accompanies this process as an expert, and monitors the success of the strategy following its implementation.
