Forecasts
BAK Basel boasts more than 25 years of experience in drawing up forecasts of economic development at Swiss and international level.
For individual industries, e.g. tourism, BAK Basel compiles more detailed forecasts. In addition, BAK has a Swiss regional model that permits GDP forecasts right down to municipal level.
Benchmarking
Globalisation and decentralisation are forcing regions to improve their competitiveness all the time. At this level the greatest pressure is on maintaining economic growth and social development. Since the mid 1990s, BAK Basel has therefore performed regional benchmarking in order to analyse regions and clusters.
Location Factors: Standortqualität messen und vergleichen
BAK Basel conducted a business survey to ascertain which key factors are taken into account when choosing a location for business. On the basis of the survey results, BAK Basel develops various sets of indicators to measure a location’s attractiveness. These indicators include innovation, regulation, taxation, accessibility and quality of life.
Industries
For selected regions in the International Benchmarking Database, BAK Basel Economics also undertakes industry-specific benchmark analyses. These are for tourism, the life sciences industry, and financial and technology centres.
Regional projects
BAK Basel examines, characterises and compares economic regions internationally. These analyses take into account a region’s economic performance and structures and provide an assessment of the region as a business location as compared with another international locations. These profiles of the region’s strengths and weaknesses are the basis for developing economic policy strategies designed to enhance competitiveness. For Swiss regions, BAK Basel additionally compiles extensive forecasts, simulations and impact analyses.
Impact studies
An impact analysis highlights the effective significance of, for example, a particular industry for the national economy. It can demonstrate how much gross value added, employment, income or indeed taxation revenue is effectively, i.e. directly and indirectly, generated by the business activities pursued by this industry.
Consultancy
On the basis of its benchmarking analysis of an economic region, BAK Basel draws up recommendations for economic policy aimed at improving performance and framework conditions. These recommended courses of action form the basis for devising economic development strategies. As an independent economic research and consulting institution, BAK accompanies this process as an expert, and monitors the success of the strategy following its implementation.
